Asia, and Southeast Asia, is universally known for being very affordable for visitors. There are also a lot of things for you to do and visit while you are there. And the best way to enjoy these cities in all of their glory is by following a travel itinerary while backpacking in Southeast Asia.
This way you can see everything that the cities have to offer, all while not having to worry about money, because this is possibly the cheapest way that you can possibly explore a place such as Southeast Asia.
Let us take a look at one of the most popular itineraries that are available for backpackers traveling in Southeast Asia.
Whether you are a well-seasoned backpacker, or the whole backpacking concept is entirely new to you. This is something that you are definitely going to want to take part in. One of the most popular itineraries that people follow, is the Banana Pancake Trail, and for good reason too.
This trip can last anywhere from 2 weeks to 4 weeks. While it is entirely possible for you to complete this whole thing in two weeks, you probably should spend more time on it, and aim for 4 weeks instead. This is simply because there is so much to do and so much to see, and it will feel very rushed if you have to fit it all into just two weeks. It might feel as though you are moving too fast just to be able to see everything that you want to see, and you may not enjoy it as much as you would if you spent more time on the trip.
However, that does not mean that it is impossible. Two weeks is a long time and you can do so much in that amount of time. It is just something that you should keep in mind.
If you choose the two-week itinerary then you can visit cities such as Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Laos, and Cambodia. Visiting all of these places is entirely possible, but you will only be scratching the surface with them. You may not be able to see everything that these amazing places have to offer but, you may only want to see a few things and move on. If that is in fact the case, then this specific itinerary is the perfect one for you!
In your two weeks, your trip will start in Bangkok, where you will be able to spend a few days exploring all of the things that you want to in that city. Once you have spent a short amount of time here, you can then move on to the next place, which is Cambodia. Here you can do so many different things, but one place that you should definitely check out is Angkor Wat. This is a beautiful temple complex with the largest religious monument in the world by land area. It measures up to 162.6 hectares. So it is definitely impressive, and if on this trip you only see one thing it should be this.
After Cambodia, you can then move on to Chiang Mai. This is located in Northern Thailand, and this place has so much to offer. But one thing that you should definitely see while you are there is the Mountaintop Temple. This is a gold-plated chedi and is absolutely stunning. The views from there are also incredible.
From there you can then move onto the hippie mountain town of Pai. This is an incredible place, with amazing sights to see. This also gives you more of a chance to see the highlights of this place on your trip, you get the freedom to do and see exactly what you want.
Within those two weeks, you can alternatively go on a scuba diving adventure in Malaysia, or you can head over to Malacca and the Tioman and Kappas Islands for a week full of diving adventures.
If you have more time, you should definitely think about the three-week itinerary. This just gives you more time to spend and enjoy specific places. You can also see and do a lot more than you are able to in just two weeks. So, it is definitely something to consider if you have the time.
Within three weeks you can start the trip in Thailand, where you can enjoy many different things. Teaching English in Thailand has become very popular in recent times and might be worth looking into. All before heading out to Cambodia, and from there you can visit Angkor Wat. The opportunities are endless.
Or if you are looking for somewhere completely different to enjoy in those three weeks then you should definitely look at places such as the Philippines and Indonesia. Both of these places are very affordable and have so much for tourists to enjoy and explore. They are both places that you should absolutely visit at least once in your life. This could be the perfect time to do so. With backpacking, you are saving money, and the places are quite cheap so you can do so much more with your money, than you probably can in other countries. It is important to note that the transport links between these countries are quite complicated and are not that great, so it will take longer to travel.
You can also travel solely around to the Philippines, where you can enjoy amazing beaches for you to snorkel. Start your trip from Manila, a capital city well known for its delicious food, nightlife and great activities. You can stay overnight at any of these great resorts near Manila and from there you can go to El Nido, which is known for its island hopping. This is something that is on the more expensive side but, you can arrange a boat ride out to Tubbataha Reef Marine Park. This is widely known for its abundance of magical marine life, so it is definitely something that you are going to want to check out.
From there you can also take a ferry out to Coron. This is particularly famous for its WWII wreck diving. So whether you are very interested in diving, or are interested in looking at the history of these places, or even both. Then this is something that you should absolutely consider doing on your trip. While you are out there, you can also explore the nearby Apo Reef. Or you can check out the other islands such as Culion Island and Busuanga Island. These places do not have much on them, but they are still absolutely beautiful. They mostly just consist of huts, beaches, and diving. But it is still something that is well worth exploring. Especially if you are very into diving.
So, overall, there is so much to explore in these cities, and the areas surrounding them. all for low prices, especially when you follow a backpacking itinerary. It gives you the opportunity to fully explore the places in all of their glory. You get to see exactly what is on offer, and you can do what you like. But, as mentioned before it is very important to plan your trip ahead of time, to ensure that it is as cheap as you are expecting it to be. But, also to ensure that you have the time to see and do everything that you want to do on your trip!
