Rhinoplasty: An Emerging Cosmetic Procedure To Rejuvenate Your Nose

Having a disproportionate nose can be distressing since it can lead to social embarrassment due to an unesthetic appearance. You may wish to look presentable and socially acceptable which would drive you towards various cosmetic procedures that alter the shape of your nose. Rhinoplasty is one such revolutionary procedure that involves surgical alteration of the shape, and structure of your nose.

Alexis Furze, MD is highly qualified and well-experienced to meet your rhinoplasty needs that boost your overall appearance and confidence.

Exploring rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is the most popular cosmetic procedure. It is also known as a nose job, which involves reshaping your nose to improve your appearance or fix medical problems that interfere with the way you breathe.

It is a type of plastic surgery that could be elective for cosmetic reasons or becomes necessary due to impaired nasal and breathing functions.

Indications of rhinoplasty

Your nose has a significant impact on your overall facial appearance since it takes up a central position on your face.

Rhinoplasty is indicated to address a host of concerns including:

  • Nasal asymmetry
  • Enlarged, bulbous, drooping, or hooked nasal tip
  • A disproportionate nose (too large or small)
  • Uneven or large nostrils
  • Wide nose base
  • Bump along the ridge of the nose

However,  you must have realistic expectations and cannot desire a celebrity-like nose. Your newly altered nose should fit in with the unique characteristics of your face.

Types of rhinoplasty techniques

Several types of rhinoplasty can be offered depending on the type of nasal issue.

  • Refinement rhinoplasty: This corrects the dropping or rotation of your nasal tip
  • Reduction rhinoplasty: The size of your nose is reduced to make it more proportional to your face
  • Revision rhinoplasty: This is a secondary rhinoplasty if the results are not satisfactory
  • Ethnic rhinoplasty: Reshaping your nose according to your ethnicity
  • Augmentation rhinoplasty: Procedure to lengthen a nose that is too short or poorly defined
  • Reconstructive rhinoplasty: Rebuilding the lost portion of your nose if it is diseased or injured

Post-rhinoplasty expectations

Rhinoplasty is an outpatient procedure which does not require hospitalization.

This surgical procedure is performed under general anesthesia (a numbing agent to sedate you) through open incisions (across the base of the nose) or closed incisions (inside your nostrils).

Once the nasal issue is corrected, your surgeon will suture the incisions.

You may experience mild discomfort, swelling, and bruising, this you must do the following for a week:

  • Take rest
  • Avoid swimming
  • Avoid strenuous exercise
  • Take prescribed medications

Rhinoplasty can improve your appearance, but you need to have realistic expectations. Getting a nose job is a big decision. It may take even a year to see noticeable results after surgery.
