Blepharoplasty – Get Rid of Droopy and Puffy Eyes

Blepharoplasty also known as the eyelid surgery is used in the correction of eyes that are hooded, sagging, look tired, and have a bulgy appearance. This is small surgery only taking around 1 to 3 hours depending on the surgery type.

It involves the removal of extra skin or fat either from the upper eyelid or lower for the creation of fresher and younger-looking eyes. Incisions or tiny cuts are made on natural eyelid crease or lower lash line crease. These scars are so tiny that they are not very discreet, and they disappear fully after a few weeks. As this surgery involves eyes and is very delicate, you’ll need to avoid sun exposure for at least one month.

For blepharoplasty in Mumbai, Dr. Siddharth Prakash is a well-known cosmetic and plastic surgeon who works at Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital. He is a graduate of Mumbai’s KEM Hospital and Boston’s Harvard Medical School.

The surgery

The surgery includes making tiny incisions on the eyelids’ skin natural line to cut fat or skin tissues leaving behind scars on the natural crease. Surgery on the upper eyelids is mostly done for cosmetic reasons such as hooded eyes and to treat functional issues such the extra skin on upper part of eyes can interfere with peripheral vision.

Surgery for the lower eyelids is done for disappearing the lower lid eye bags and for removing extra skin. The doctor carefully places the incisions along natural creases and lash line from the inside of the eye to assure there is no visible scarring.

You will get some swelling and bruising which will diminish completely within 2 weeks. However, the results of the surgery will not be visible for 5 to 6 weeks.

Why you need Blepharoplasty

This surgery not only helps in the restoration of your vision but also increases the natural beauty of the eyes. When extra fat or skin is removed, your eyelids will look more defined and smoother making you look younger and improves a condition called eye lid fatigue. This surgery is sometimes coupled with chemical peeling and laser treatments immediately after the surgery for optimizing the skin appearance and healing process.

Recovery

You might experience mild pain post-surgery and you should start using combination of cold and warm compress for 3days after the surgery. In case of non-dissolvable stitches, you will have them removed after 5 to 7 days.

There will be some bruising for 2 weeks and can continue working (office job) after one week of the surgery. If you wish to conceal your bruised or swelled eyes, you can wear spectacles with thick frame. You will need to refrain from driving for at least one week and resume any physical activity or driving after 2 to 4 weeks of the surgery.

Risks

You might experience some temporary problems with your vision including double and blurry sight. This issue lasts for 3 to 5 days maximum. You might get small whiteheads after the removal of stitches but they can be easily removed by your doctors by using tiny needles.
